Canada-Africa Young Scholars Coalition (CAYSC)
CAYSC is an initiative of the Africa Institute at Western University that provides networking opportunities for persons of African heritage or identity and/or their allies. Membership is open to undergraduate students, post-doctoral Fellows and other trainees of African heritage from across Canada.
The coalition seeks to not only foster and promote collaborative, interdisciplinary scholarly approaches, but also provides a platform for centering mentorship and academic support for young African and Africanist scholars. Faculty and Staff of the Africa Institute continue to support and work with the Young Scholars Coalition.
The Canada - Africa Young Scholars Coalition (CAYSC) draws its membership from beyond Western University. This coalition not only fosters and promote collaborative, interdisciplinary scholarly approaches, it provides a platform for centering mentorship and academic support for young African and Africanist scholars. The Africa Institute Faculty and Staff supports and work with this Young Scholars Coalition on an ongoing basis. The Africa Institute is launching a Canada-wide alumni network that links up with this Young Scholars Coalition, mainly for ongoing mentorship and other forms of support. Recruitment of students and scholars coming to Western and to Canada in general, is facilitated through these two Africa Institute programs.
