Why the Toolbox?

Reason 1

Many of those recruited to research studies worldwide are adults with limited literacy and/or no prior experience to research. This toolbox is uniquely tailored to this audience.

Reason 2

Research that is ethical – meaning fair in the eyes of research participants and respectful of research participants – depends on community consultation, participation, and trust. It also depends on those invited to participate in research studies being able to understand their options, in order to make an informed choice on whether or not they wish to participate. This toolbox aims to support ethical resresponds to this ethical requirement.

Reason 3

This toolbox has been designed with input from many individuals involved in research at different levels, using a participatory approach. The toolbox recognizes that supporting the ethical conduct of research in public health emergencies must include learning from those living this research first-hand.
