Prairie Tornado Update (#2)

There are been many severe weather events on the Prairies over the last several weeks, including a number of tornadoes. This update relates to four tornadoes in SK on July 8th. There's even more on the way soon (will be update #3!).

Event Name: Paynton, SK
Date: July 8, 2022

Start of damage track: 53.0466N, 109.0132W

Description: Witnesses captured video and photos of a tornado north of Paynton. No injuries were reported. Tree damage was reported and satellite imagery review revealed at tornado track though treed areas and cropland. Damage assessed as EF2 tornado, with an estimated max. wind speed of 190 km/h, track length of 5.70 km and max. path width of 200 m. Tornado motion was from the WNW (approx 285 degrees).

Start of damage track: 52.9432N, 108.8758W
End of damage of track: 52.9405N, 108.8394W
Description: Witnesses captured photos of a tornado near Lambert Lake, northeast of Poundmaker First Nation. No damage and no injuries were reported. Satellite imagery review revealed a damage track through cropland (track length of 2.58 km and max. path width of 60 m). Tornado motion was from the W (approx 275 degrees). With no damage indicators impacted, the EF-Scale rating is EF0-Default.

Event Name: Oliver Lake, SK
Date: July 8, 2022

Estimated tornado location: 52.92N, 108.79W
Description: Witnesses captured photos of a tornado near Oliver Lake, south of Bresaylor. No damage and no injuries were reported, and satellite imagery review revealed no visible damage. With no damage indicators impacted, the EF-Scale rating is EF0-Default. Information available insufficient to accurately estimate track length, max. path width and tornado motion of the tornado.

Start of damage track: 52.8833N, 107.0436W
End of damage of track: 52.8980N, 106.8507W 
Location of worst damage: 52.8893N, 106.9469W
Description: Witnesses captured video and photos of a tornado that developed northwest of Blaine Lake and tracked eastward before dissipating southwest of Marcelin. No injuries were reported. Structural, grain bin and tree damage to a farm property was reported and satellite imagery review revealed a damage track through treed areas and cropland. An NTP survey was completed on July 10, 2022.  Damage assessed as EF2 tornado, with an estimated max. wind speed of 180 km/h, track length of 13.49 km and max. path width of 450 m. Tornado motion was from the W (approx 265 degrees).
