Tornado in southern Manitoba

The NTP has confirmed a tornado near Sperling in southern Manitoba, southwest of Winnipeg, from the late-day storms on May 15. No damage was reported. Despite some rotation evident at cloud base, after radar analysis we believe this was a landspout-type tornado. The event summary is provided below, along with a regional map. The tornado can also be plotted on the NTP dashboard here.

Note that other reports of tornadoes received in the Niverville and Gretna areas appear to be related to lofted dust / dirt along a gust front associated with a large area of storm outflow. This is based on NTP radar analysis and, in the case of Niverville, detailed witness photos and descriptions received by NTP. We continue to seek additional evidence. Note that lofted dust / dirt along a gust front was also observed at La Broquerie.
