Weak tornado at Rolling Hills, AB on April 12

The NTP has confirmed that a weak tornado occurred at Rolling Hills in southern Alberta during the late afternoon of April 12. Analysis of photos/video, radar and the storm environment indicates that this was a landspout-type tornado. Given the tornado did not hit any EF-scale damage indicators, it has been assigned an EF0-Default rating which assumes a maximum wind speed of at least 90 km/h.

Note also that this is the first recorded tornado in Canada for 2025. There have been 10 April tornadoes recorded in Alberta in April since 1980, with the most recent being in 2024.
