About the Event

Thursday, November 17 at 3:00 p.m. (via Zoom)

This workshop is open to students, staff, and faculty.

What brings you joy? How do you know something is giving you pleasure? Figuring out what feels good to you is paramount for our relationship with ourselves and others. Too often, there is an expectation that we should automatically know how to communicate our needs, understand our desires or be able to handle rejection. This interactive workshop is a safer space for all gender and sexualities to think through pleasure and communication.

Join awarding-winning consent educator Farrah Khan to explore ways to build a nourishing relationship with yourself and others. Prioritizing fun and pleasure over shame and fear, she will guide participants in expanding their current tools for sexual communication so that they can feel more comfortable asking, listening and responding with care.

About the Speaker

Farrah Khan is internationally recognized for her groundbreaking work supporting survivors of gender-based violence, advocacy alongside marginalized communities, public speaking and leading innovative systemic change.

As the CEO of Possibility Seeds, Farrah leads Courage to Act, the national collaborative project addressing gender-based violence at Canadian post-secondary institutions. The project has engaged 3500 stakeholders and will have produced 82 tools by September 2023.

Farrah is the host of Healing Comes in Waves, a podcast for survivors to explore healing after harm. Too often, the conversation about sexual violence focuses on what was done to us but not how we choose to heal. In the first season, she talks to survivors, educators, and advocates about attending to feelings, making connections and figuring out what justice means to us.

She addresses complex problems by co-creating community projects like Use The Right Words, a suite of media guides for journalists reporting on gender-based violence, and Heartbeats: The Izzat Project, a graphic novel exploring South Asian girls' experiences of family and state violence.  Farrah embodies lifting as you climb, committed to mentoring and learning from young feminists, including High School Too, We Give Consent and Consent Action Team.

Farrah is a trusted advisor to organizations, institutions and governments on gender justice policy and practice. Farrah served as a co-chair of the Ontario Provincial Roundtable on Violence Against Women and as a member of the Government of Canada Advisory Council on the Strategy to Prevent and Address Gender-Based Violence. In 2018, she was appointed to the Gender Equality Advisory Council for the G7 Summit. When addressing world leaders there, Farrah insisted that any discussion about a thriving, sustainable and peaceful world would be impossible without concrete action on gender equity.

Farrah's lifelong work demonstrates her commitment to gender justice rooted in joy, equity and community care.
