Copy That! Grappling with Copyright at Western and Beyond

Did you know that the simple act of creation is enough to be the holder of the copyright to a work? That is, unless you sign these rights away. This session will provide an overview of copyright basics and provide a summary of your rights as a creator, and advice on how to protect these rights. It will also cover publishing, teaching, and document creation with practical examples of what to look for in a variety of employment contexts including universities, colleges, and the private sector.
Science Writing for The Conversation

Open to faculty members, post docs and PhD candidates.
Interim Editor-in-Chief and Science Editor of The Conversation Canada Nehal El-Hadi, will lead an interactive, hands-on workshop on how to write an effective science- or research-based article for publication in The Conversation or other mainstream media outlets.
The Conversation is a daily independent online publication, delivering analysis and explanatory journalism from the research community directly to the public.
This is an interactive workshop where participants are encouraged to bring story ideas for potential articles to workshop.
This workshop is presented by Western Communications. To reserve your spot in the workshop please email Media Relations Officer Justin Zadorsky at jzadorsk@uwo.ca. Please indicate if you wish to attend in person or via zoom; in person spots will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
Dissertation Writers' Retreat
May 15 & 16, 2025, 9:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. ET
Remove yourself from daily distractions and focus your time exclusively on dissertation writing! The Dissertation Writers' Retreats provides PhD candidates with dedicated time for intensive writing. Participating in the Retreat can help you make significant progress in writing your dissertation and help establish good writing habits.
Coffee, tea and snacks will be provided in the morning and afternoon, along with lunch at the Grad Club. Please make every effort to clear your calendar and commit to attending the full retreat.
