First-year student, Laiba Saqlain, wins film prize

Congratulations to first-year Film 1022 students Laiba Saqlain (Film Studies, Arts & Humanities), for winning second place and Sophie Siew (FIMS) for the audience choice awards at the 2021 Western Smartphone Film Festival!

Saqlain's experimental essay-film "Forget Me Not"  won Second Place and Siew's short film on the modelling industry "Poise" won the Audience Choice award.

The films were adjudicated by a guest panel of film studies professors and creative professionals. The festival was presented as a free live-streamed event on February 11th, 2021.

  • 2nd Place - "Forget Me Not" by Laiba Saqlain (Western University)
  • 3rd Place - "Scena" by Ana Garcia (Seneca College)
  • Audience Choice Award - "Poise" by Sophie Siew (Western University)
