Message from Director
Welcome to the webpage for Campus Safety & Emergency Services for Western University and the affiliated university colleges – Huron University College and King’s University College. Western enjoys vibrant campuses where students, faculty, staff and guests are all welcome to share ideas, conduct research, learn and work in a positive and safe environment. Your safety, security and well-being while at Western is a priority for Western Leadership and the dedicated team in Campus Safety and Emergency Services which includes Western Special Constable Services, Fire Safety, Emergency Management, communications operators (dispatchers), Western Foot Patrol, and Building Access Control.
On campus, you will see members of our Fire Safety team conducting fire drills, providing fire safety education and ensuring all of our fire safety equipment and infrastructure is in good working order; you will see our Foot Patrol volunteers providing walk safe services and rides; and, you will see our Special Constables patrolling on foot, bicycles and in cruisers, visiting with our 5500+ students living in on campus residences, and, interacting with students, student groups, faculty, staff and visitors. Our dispatchers are available 24/7 to assist our campus community and our Building Access Control team provides for security of Western’s buildings and spaces while ensuring access as required. Behind the scenes Emergency Management ensures we are well prepared to respond to major incidents or events such as a severe weather incident and maintains the Alert WesternU emergency notification system.
The activities of CSES are all with the purpose of enhancing student experience and the quality of campus life by providing safety, security and supporting a sense of inclusivity and well-being at Western University.
Best regards,
Bill Chantler
