Patient partner engagement in School educational activities

Patient partners actively contribute to educational activities in the School of Physical Therapy across both the entry-level and post-graduate programs.

In the entry-level Master of Physical Therapy program, patient partners share their lived experiences of pain with students through clinical history videos, provide perspectives on the importance of including caregivers in patient-centered care, and teach students to consider patient-specific factors when prescribing therapeutic exercises (for example, values and beliefs). In the post-graduate Advanced Health Care Practice program, patient partners lead classes that advocate for the critical role of the patient voice in co-producing healthcare.

Feedback from students in the entry-level Master of Physical Therapy Program highlight the value of patient partners contributing to School of Physical Therapy educational activities:

I loved having a case study throughout the week in lecture that led up to meeting the patient in person! It felt so real and cool!

Patient partner educational contributions to the School of Physical Therapy brings real-world perspectives to the classroom, preparing physiotherapists to deliver personalized, compassionate and effective care for every patient.
