Who are warnings for? Refugees and Practitioners' Experiences of UK Warnings during the COVID-19 Pandemic and 2024 Summer Riots
Abtract
This presentation will demonstrate limitations in UK warning systems, showing their technocentric, hazard-focused. Using refugee and practitioner experiences from COVID-19 and the 2024 riots, it reveals that warnings do not reflect the lived experiences of structural marginalisation. It finds that voluntary and community organisations are key in the contextualisation and dissemination of warnings.
