October 7, 2024: Fields Lab for Network Science has launched
Networks can help us understand how the brain works.
The Fields Lab for Network Science brings together researchers in mathematics and neuroscience who aim to shed light on the inner workings of brains, both biological and artificial. Researchers use the latest mathematical techniques to better understand how neurons generate thoughts in human brains and to obtain a better grasp on how artificial brains (i.e. neural networks) make predictions.
Under the co-directorship of Western Fellows Lyle Muller and Jan Minac, the lab builds upon the impressive work of the Mathematics of Neural Networks research theme of the Western Academy. Plans are underway to bring leading minds to Western's campus, such as distinguished visitors Todd Coleman (Stanford) and John Reynolds (Salk Institute).
The lab is part of a larger partnership between Western University and the Fields Institute (University of Toronto). Read more in the Western News: https://news.westernu.ca/2024/09/fields-western-collaboration-centre/
