Survival in an unpredictable world: the ecophysiology of birds in storms
Oregon State University
Summary: Animals use diverse strategies to cope with seasonal environmental variation and can tolerate a wider range of conditions by employing behavioral and physiological adaptations. Unpredictable or extreme events, however, may be particularly challenging for animals if they cannot prepare and may lead to mass mortality. Dr. Cornelius will share research from the Little Bird Lab at Oregon State University describing how nomadic birds can respond to social cues and adverse weather with behavioral and physiological strategies to improve their chances of survival when the going gets tough.
