What is a "Catchment Area"?
A catchment area is a geographic region established by universities in Canada to ensure capacity for clinical education across the country. Each university has a local catchment area or designated region(s) where students are assigned their clinical placement(s).
Out of Province and International Opportunities
Students may have the opportunity to complete a placement across Canada, or internationally. It is important to note that these placements are not guaranteed and can vary each year depending on placement availability. All placements are arranged through the Faculty Coordinators.
Clinical Placement Platforms
The clinical placement software platforms that assist with coordinating placements and which vary across programs include the following:
HSPnet
The Health Sciences Placement Network (HSPnet), is the student placement system that the School of Physical Therapy uses for Clinical Education. This platform streamlines processes and improves coordination among universities and healthcare facilities in the areas of offers, placements, and evaluations.
InPlace
Audiology, Occupational Therapy, and Speech-Language Pathology are programs that use InPlace, a placement platform that offers sophisticated features to assist in the coordination and management of the clinical placement process. Enhanced student features that include a student dashboard, communication tools, and timesheet reporting, in addition to the options for Clinical Educators to complete multiple tasks within this platform, allow InPlace to be a complete pathway for all steps and stages of clinical placements.
Synergy Gateway Verified
Synergy Gateway Verified is a student placement compliance software that is designed to assist in the preparation, review, and validation of a school's placement requirements. All five schools that the Clinical Placements Office serves utilize Synergy as their pre-placement verifier system.
