Campus Road Closures (September 8, 2024)

Western is currently experiencing a labour disruption, which includes intermittent picketing at campus entrances.

This is creating additional congestion for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians at what is already a busy time of year in the city.

To help ensure the safety of picketers and all community members we will need to maintain campus road closures until the end of this labour disruption.

Motorists who do not have a specific reason to be on or around main campus are encouraged to avoid the area.

Please note that all campus parking lots will remain open and accessible – but your route to your usual parking lot may need to change (see map for access points).

Road Closures

  • University Drive (from the Richmond Gates up to Perth Drive)
  • Lambton Drive (with a portion open allowing access to the Alumni Hall traffic circle)
  • Huron Drive (with Philip Aziz Avenue open to allow access to the South Valley parking lot)
  • Oxford Drive

London Transit

During a labour disruption, London Transit buses will not enter campus but instead have existing and additional stops on the periphery of main campus. Information on bus route detours and stop closures is available on the London Transit website.

Motorist Drop-Off and Pick-up Locations

Designated pick-up and drop-off locations are available at the Medway and South Valley lots, Middlesex Drive in front of the Natural Sciences Building, as well as Brescia Drive.

Driving to campus: Please drive slowly and take extra care when traveling through campus. Remember to give yourself extra time and expect delays when traveling to and around Western. All Western roadways have a posted maximum speed of 30 km/h. Motorists entering campus will need to slow down, reducing speed from adjacent city roads. Western Special Constable Service enforces speed limits on campus.

Accessibility: Faculty and staff with mobility limitations should contact Accessibility Services or call 519-661-2111, extension 81458. Students can call 519-661-2147 (Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.) to arrange for assistance. There is no change in service for students using the Western Accessible Transportation Service (WATS).

During this strike the safety of all community members is our top priority.

We will continue to provide updates as they become available via Western’s social media accounts and on this webpage.
