Three New Faculty Appointments in Earth Sciences

July 01, 2012

The Department of Earth Sciences is very pleased to announce the following new Faculty Appointments in our Department:

Dr. Audrey Bouvier, of the University of Minnesota, has accepted our offer of an appointment as an Assistant Professor. Dr. Bouvier's present research concerns the chronology of planetary accretion, differentiation, and impact in the Solar System. Her appointment is intended to facilitate her application for the Canada Research Chair (Tier 2) in Planetary Materials, recently awarded to the Department.

Dr. Tony Withers, also of the University of Minnesota, has accepted our offer of a limited term appointment as an Assistant Professor. Dr. Withers has a strong research background in experimental petrology that will complement existing Departmental strengths in High Pressure/High Temperature Experimental Mineral Physics.

Dr. Phil McCausland, of Western University, has accepted our offer of a limited term appointment as an Assistant Professor. Dr. McCausland is well known to many of us in the Department for his work on physical properties and petrography of planetary materials, on geomagnetism, and on geochronology. Phil will join us with both teaching responsibilities, and responsibilities as the coordinator of the recently successful CSA ASTRO Cluster Award.

Audrey Bouvier and Tony Withers will begin their appointments on July 1st, 2013, while Phil McCausland will begin his appointment on Sept 1st, 2012.

We welcome all three to Western, and to the Department of Earth Sciences, and we look forward immensely to their arrival and full participation in our research and teaching activities. Many thanks to our Appointments Committee for the efforts that went into the various searches and interviews associated with these appointments, and many thanks to all who participated in the process.
