Open Space Strategy

The Open Space Strategy finds its roots in Western’s strategic plan, Towards Western at 150, which calls for strategic growth. Planning for that growth, in direct service of our teaching and research missions, brings even greater responsibility as we seek to create the best opportunities and experiences for our students, faculty and staff while continuing to carefully steward the campus land, our increasingly complex infrastructure, and the natural environment around us.

The Open Space Strategy will build on the 2018 Open Space Strategy, ensuring alignment with current strategic priorities, including the Campus Development Strategy. It will now include the West Campus lands (the former Brescia lands) and respond to evolving campus development, mobility (pedestrians, cycling, vehicles, including transit) patterns, and public realm priorities. The Strategy will also reaffirm the university’s commitment to a pedestrian priority core campus, integrate current and planned capital projects, and develop a campus mobility strategy in light of changes to the City of London’s Mobility Master Plan and transit strategies.
