Basic Health Insurance
We encourage all Western community members to have up to date health insurance coverage. Ontario residents are covered by OHIP (Ontario Health Insurance Plan). International students, faculty and staff are required to have coverage from UHIP (University Health Insurance Plan), a mandatory health insurance plan for all international students, employees and their dependents (spouse and/or children) at Western University who are not covered by OHIP.

Extended Health Insurance
Extended health insurance is available through
Undergraduates - Undergrad students have extended benefits through the University Students' Council (USC) Benefit Plan.
Questions? All health/dental plan inquires can be directed to the Live Chat on the Purple Care website (http://www.purplecare.ca/). Live Chat will be able to answer general health/dental plan questions and direct your more in depth inquiries to the correct person.
Graduate Students - Full time graduate students have extended health benefits through SOGS Benefits.
Staff and Faculty Members - extended health an dental benefits are available to Western Faculty and Staff members through Western Human Resources.
Visiting international students, faculty and staff - Although the University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP) covers most doctor visits and hospital costs in Ontario, it does NOT include supplemental coverage for services such as prescription medications, dental care, eyeglasses nor for most out-of-country expenses. Visiting exchange students and international employees are strongly encouraged to purchase supplemental health insurance in addition to UHIP.
