Chemistry Parking Lot Renewal

Wider Stalls
Enhanced Safety Features
Improved access and egress
Project Summary
Western is renewing the Chemistry Parking Lot with a focus on safety and accessibility.
The Lot will be reduced by 29 stalls, leaving 419 total spaces. The reduction in spaces provides wider berths and better access and egress. Work includes repaving, new curbs, lighting, and sidewalks.
Old Lot Configuration
Renewed Lot Configuration
Safety and Accessibility at the forefront
This expansion supports the “10 Big Moves” in Western’s Open Space Strategy, which calls for locating vehicle parking at the campus edges and improving accessibility to support a more pedestrian-focused core.
Key features will include:
- New posts and LED lights replace current standards.
- New curbs and sidewalks in and along the lot.
- Improved manoeuvrability for permit holders, service vehicles, and emergency responders.
- Wider accessible stalls and expanded parking spaces throughout the lot.
2025 Renewal Projects
Each year, Facilities Management identifies areas for improvements to infrastructure and campus community safety. Though not always correlated, there tends to be elements of both when renewal projects are evaluated. Along with this project, similar 2025 hard-surface enhancement projects include(d):
West Campus Lot Expansion
Expansion to increase capacity and enhance safety.
Oxford Drive Concrete Repairs
Repouring of hard-surfaces, where sections have heaved and cracked.
Pedestrian safety, perimeter parking, and accessibility initiatives are outlined in Western's Open Space Strategy.
