Western Day Employee Celebration

Western Tower and words It's Western Day

This year marks 148 years since Western’s founding, and as we look ahead Towards Western at 150, there’s so much for our community to celebrate.

We invite you to join us for the Western Day Employee Celebration — an opportunity to connect, reflect, and share our purple pride together.

Western Day Employee Celebration
Thursday, March 5, 2026
Drop in for a coffee break any time between 7:45 and 10:30 a.m.

Choose from two locations:

  • Grand Hall – Schmeichel Building for Entrepreneurship and Innovation
  • The Great Hall – Somerville House

Gather with teammates, meet new colleagues, and enjoy complimentary coffee, tea, muffins, and purple themed treats.

For employees observing Ramadan, a takeaway option will be available so you can enjoy a treat at a time that’s right for you.

Wear purple if you can — whether it’s your favourite Western branded gear or something nostalgic (we know many of you are Western alumni too).

Together, let’s celebrate our achievements and the community that makes Western special.

What are Employee Celebration Days?

Western employees at celebration events

At Western, our goals are achieved through the impact and contributions of our people.

Each day, employees bring passion, dedication, and innovation to Western’s teaching and research mission. We help advance research and ensure our students have the support, opportunities, and experiences they need to thrive.

The impact of our effort extends far beyond campus, creating a ripple effect that strengthens our community locally, nationally, and across the globe.

To recognize this deep commitment, Western is hosting employee celebration days. These events are a chance to pause, connect, and celebrate the many contributions that help Western achieve its goals.

These events are also meant to highlight the spirit of collaboration that defines our community, where every individual—through their unique talents and efforts—plays an essential role in shaping the student experience.

And, it’s our way of saying thank you!
