Jonas Salk Award
The Jonas Salk Award, consisting of an unrestricted $10,000 prize, is presented annually to a Canadian scientist, physician, or researcher who has made a new and outstanding contribution in science or medicine to prevent, alleviate or eliminate a physical disability.
Areas of acceptable research include, but are not limited to: ALS, stroke, brain and spinal cord injuries, MS, Cerebral Palsy, Parkinson's, studies in aging, neuroscience, rehabilitation medicine.
Nominations
Nominators may be anyone who knows the nominee and his/her work well enough to write a competitive nomination letter.
Nominees must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents whose research has resulted in significant advancement in scientific knowledge, prevention, treatment, or cure of a physically disabling condition, and whose findings have been published in refereed journals.
Nomination Process
- Complete the online nomination form which includes a description (one page) of the nominee’s contribution to the prevention, treatment, or cure of a physically disabling condition.
- Submit the completed form to research@marchofdimes.ca to receive instructions for submitting the remaining required documents electronically. These will include:

- Copies of relevant publications or other evidence
- Three letters of reference
