Human Research Ethics

NOTICE: We will be updating our WREM application forms on January 28, 2022, which will require the current Project Owner (listed on Work Area screen) to update projects within WREM.
We are currently working off-site. If you need to contact our office, please visit our contact us page and we will get back to you as soon as we are able.

For up-to-date information regarding research during COVID-19 or delays in review, please see our communications page.

Important Note: Internet Explorer will no longer support the WREM system as of July 31, 2021.  Please do not use this browser when accessing the WREM system as this will lead to glitches within WREM.

NOTE: The Office of Human Research Ethics will be closed June 30 and July 1, 2022. We will re-open July 4, 2022.

On behalf of Western's research ethics boards, we manage the approval and monitoring process for the use of humans in research at the university and its affiliated hospitals and research institutes. All research involving humans conducted by faculty, staff or students at Western or its affiliated hospitals or research institutes must be approved by a Western-sanctioned review board.
