Effective immediately, we will no longer be requiring our staff or members to mask in the Western Student Recreation Centre. Please respect those who choose to continue to wear masks. We would ask that individuals still self-monitor for symptoms, wash hands frequently, and wipe down machines after using. Western is actively working on the vaccination policy and we will provide an update prior to September 1. Western Campus Recreation will lifted reservation requirements for most Western Student Recreation Centre (WSRC) and Thompson Recreation Athletic Centre (TRAC) programming as of Monday, February 21.

Please check our main Campus Rec page for our facility hours of operation and drop-in programming times.

Process:

Students will continue to tap their Western OneCard upon entry. Change rooms and showers are available for WSRC users. Please note that masks must continue to be worn AT ALL TIMES - entering, exiting, and during activity.

Effective April 1, 2022 we will no longer be requiring confirmation of vaccination status to enter our facilities. 

What are the Pool rules?

Lane swim will no longer require reservations and masks may be removed while swimming. To see lane swimming hours, visit https://www.uwo.ca/campusrec/about/hours.html.

What are my responsibilities if I want to come and work out?

  • You must wear a mask at all times while entering, exiting and working out in the facilities. Masks MAY NOT be removed once individuals are in their workout pods/spaces
  • Day use lockers (no long-term rentals), showers and changerooms are available
  • You must be diligent in physical distancing, washing hands and/or hand sanitizing

What cleaning protocols do you have in place at the WSRC?

Sports and Recreation appreciates that health and safety is a shared responsibility with those using its facilities. We have protocols in place to ensure robust cleaning measures in the WSRC. Staff will be performing a deep clean each night with new Electrostatic sprayers. Members will be asked to clean after each individual use using wipes provided by the WSRC.

Will members have to pre-register online before they workout?

Reservations have been removed for most programming including WSRC weight room and atrium areas, drop-in sports (badminton, basketball and volleyball), lane swim, and TRAC student jogging and skating. Reservations will continue for squash court bookings at shop.westernmustangs.ca.

Do not enter the sport and recreation facilities, if:

You have symptoms of COVID-19 or are feeling unwell. There will also be signage throughout the WSRC and other facility spaces informing members about our procedures.

Will members be required to wear masks while working out?

Yes. Masks must continue to be worn while entering, exiting, and throughout the building at all times. Masks MAY NOT be removed once individuals are in the fitness centre OR in their workout pods/spaces and during activity.

What are the hours of operation?

WSRC hours of operation can be found at https://www.uwo.ca/campusrec.

What is the capacity in each facility? 

Western Campus Recreation is adhering to the Provincial and Middlesex London Health Unit (MLHU) guidelines and capacity limits are no longer in effect. 

What about faculty, staff, alumni and others who have been WSRC members in the past?

Only students with an active membership are eligible to use the WSRC. May 1, 2022 is the anticipated date for staff, faculty, alumni, external stakeholders and community users to be able to return to the WSRC. Details will be announced as they become available.

Can I use the water fountains?

No - drinking directly from the water fountains is not permitted. Members are encouraged to bring a pre-filled water bottle for their workouts. Water fountains will be equipped with bottle fillers, but members are not permitted to drink directly from the water fountains.

Are you offering equipment rentals?

No. Equipment rentals are not available at this time. Members are encouraged to bring their own small equipment, where possible.

What’s closed?

To reduce the number of potential touchpoints the following services and amenities will be closed for now, based on recommendations:

  • Massage Therapy
  • Towel Service
  • Locker rentals - day use lockers are available
  • Equipment Rentals

How far in advance am I able to book my workout?

Users no longer need to book their workout timeslot. The only reservation that remains is for squash court bookings which can be booked 24 hours in advance at shop.westernmustangs.ca.

When will Intramural Sports and Rec Clubs start again?

Both programs will resume after Reading Week. More details will be communicated directly with registrants

What Group Fitness Options Are Available?

Live Digital Fitness Classes will continue until the end of February, at which time we anticipate in-person fitness will resume.

Are the changerooms, showers and washrooms open?

Yes. Masks must be worn in the changerooms and only removed when in the shower.

Are lockers available?

Only day use locker rentals are currently available. We are looking to reopen longer term rentals as of May 1, 2022. Members may also take their bags with them to their workout pods.
