Recreational Sport Clubs Registration Open
Recreational Sport Clubs are back in action! Western Recreational Sport Clubs will be starting up again on Sunday, January 21 for the 2024 Winter Term and some of them still have memberships available. Esports Tournaments
Registration for Esports tournaments is open until January 30, 2024. Tournaments are one-day only, and will be held during the following days from 3pm-7pm EST: • Super Smash Bros. Ultimate: February 11 (NOTE: in-person at TBD location; 2:00 – 6:00PM) • Overwatch 2: March 23 • Counter-Strike 2: March 24 • Rocket League (Duos): March 30 • Fortnite: March 31 • Teamfight Tactics: April 7 Esports Intramurals Leagues are also available for Valorant and League of Legends, and run for a series of weeks. Western Campus Recreation Student Staff 2023 Charity Tournament
Western Campus Recreation student staff ran and participated in their annual student staff charity tournament in late November 2023. This event is not only a fun competition for the student staff, but also raises money for some very worthy local causes. This year’s tournament included over 90 participants on 10 teams, and each team had a different theme. Team Minions won the coveted golden shoe trophy and the tournament raised over $1,400. Esports
Western Esports Intramural Leagues are back for Winter 2024! Registration is open now. Open to all current Western students. These leagues are online on Discord. Games include: League of Legends and Valorant. The League will be held within the official Western Esports Intramural Discord and led by “Western Intramural Officials” or “TOs”. Coached Fitness Swimming is now available! This is a program for Master Swimmers as well as those who have retired their swim cap and googles after competing. Canada Day Weekend Hours
Western Campus Recreation will be closed on Friday June 30 (Canada Day Observed, University Holiday) and Saturday July 1 (Canada Day). In addition, the pool will be closed on Thursday, June 29 for filter cleaning from 6:30am-5pm. We anticipate it will be open Thursday evening. New Recreational Sport Clubs for 2023-24: Jump Rope Club and Roundnet Club
Campus Recreation is pleased to announce the creation of two new Recreational Sport Clubs for 2023-24: the Jump Rope Club and the Roundnet Club. All of our Recreational Sport Clubs are a great way to engage in a high impact recreational experience, and to stay active while meeting new people. Western Esports Intramurals are back for Winter 2023 with three upcoming tournaments. There is no registration fee and registration starts March 6 and ends on Friday, March 10 @ 11:59PM EST. WSRC Pool Reopened
UPDATE Feb 12, 2023: The WSRC Pool has reopened as of 2pm. Posted Feb 11, 2023: Due to an unexpected brief power outage in the WSRC, the pool pumps are currently not operational and therefore the pool will be closed and all pool programming cancelled on Sunday, February 12. Adjusted Pool Hours this week for the 2023 OUA Swimming Championships
Western will be hosting the OUA (provincial) Swimming Championships this week in the Western Student Recreation Centre, February 9-11, 2023. 10+ schools from across the province will be competing, including our Western Mustangs. February is Black History Month and Sports & Recreation will be honouring and celebrating the legacy of Black Canadians and their communities. The origin of Black History Month dates back to 1926 when Carter G. Woodson, known as the "father of Black history", encouraged people of all backgrounds to discuss the Black experience.
