Judo Club

Description

Judo, which translates to the "Gentle Way", is a Japanese martial art and Olympic sport most known for its throws and submissions. Judo is a safe and fun way to stay active and fit while learning practical self-defence. The Western Judo Club will be focusing on traditional Judo techniques based on the International Judo Federation (IJF) and the Kodokan, as well as the holistic understanding of Judo, (maybe even a little bit of competition as well). Here at the Judo Club, everyone is welcome no matter their skill level or previous experience, whether you are interested in learning self-defence, getting a workout in, or making new friends, the Judo Club is the right place for you!

Please note we will be starting from the ground up, so if you are new to Judo and considering it, we would heavily recommend signing up within the first three weeks of each semester.

* The cost of the required uniform (although coordinated by the Club) is the responsibility of the Club member.

About the President

Hey, My name is Zakaria Mahmoud! I am a first-year law student here at Western. I am excited to be the 2023-24 president of the Western Judo Club. I have been doing Judo for 6 years now and I have had the pleasure of training with many world-class athletes and even a few Olympic champions. Judo isn't just a sport to me – it's a way of life that has given me confidence, discipline, and so many memories. Oh, and don't forget the self-defence skills it throws in! The Judo Club offers an exciting look into the world of grappling that will tailor to ALL SKILL LEVELS so no previous experience is necessary. Whether you are a seasoned veteran looking for a good place to spar (challenge accepted!) or an aspiring beginner looking for a new hobby, you are more than welcome to stop by. You won’t regret it!
