This page explains how to enroll in required and recommended training managed by Western Human Resources. 

How to Enroll in Training

Automatic Enrollment

Employees will be automatically enrolled in all required training on OWL Brightspace that is required for all roles at Western. Sign in to OWL Brightspace to access these courses.

Self-Enrollment for Recommended or Role-Specific Training

  1. Sign in to My Human Resources using your Western User ID and Password. If needed, Visit the "Find Your ID & Login Information" page.
  2. Select My Human Resources from the dropdown in the top left corner.
  3. Select the Training tile.
  4. Follow the instructions on Introduction – How to Enroll

Employees can self-enroll in following recommended or role-specific training:

  • Enroll in Workshops: Instructor-led sessions, in-person and virtual
  • Enroll in Safety eLearning: Self-directed health and safety training
  • Enroll in eLearning: Self-directed professional learning

How to Enroll in Each Type of Training

Workshops (In-person or instructor-led virtual sessions)

  1. Select Enroll in Workshops on the left-hand menu.
  2. Select Enroll.
  3. Search by course name or course number.
  4. Select View Available Sessions next to the course.
  5. Select the session number you want and then select Continue.
  6. Review the Course Session Details and select Submit.
  7. Print or save the confirmation screen.
  8. Add the session date and time to your calendar.

Safety eLearning (Self-directed health and safety training)

  1. Select Enroll in Safety eLearning from the left-hand menu.
  2. Choose the course(s) from the list.
  3. Select Enroll at the bottom of the page.

eLearning (Self-directed professional learning)

  1. Select Enroll in eLearning on the left-hand menu.
  2. Select the course(s) from the list
  3. Select Enroll at the bottom of the page.

Other Important Information

After You Enroll in eLearning

  1. You will receive an email notification once you are added to the Brightspace course site. Courses are added at specific times throughout the day. See below for eLearning Course Enrollment Update Times.
  2. Sign in to OWL Brightspace using your Western User ID and Password.
  3. Select “HR Training” under “My Courses” and locate your course(s).
  4. Follow the instructions to complete all required modules within OWL Brightspace.

eLearning Course Enrollment Update Times

You will receive an email notification once you have been added to the Brightspace course site.

Your course(s) will not appear in OWL Brightspace immediately after you enroll. Course(s) become available in OWL Brightspace by the following times:

Enroll By Access Available By
5:00 a.m. 7:00 a.m.
8:00 a.m. 10:00 a.m.
11:00 a.m. 1:00 p.m.
2:00 p.m. 4:00 p.m.
5:00 p.m. 7:00 p.m.

Note: Once your course(s) appears in OWL Brightspace, you can access it at any time.

Transfer or Drop a Session

  1. Sign in to My Human Resources using your Western User ID and Password.
  2. Select “My Human Resources” from the dropdown in the top left corner.
  3. Select the “Training” tile.
  4. Find the course you wish to transfer or drop.
    Note: You cannot transfer or drop a course after the Last Enroll/Drop Date or if there are no available sessions.
  5. Select Drop Session
    or
    Select Transfer Session to choose a new session.
  6. Select Yes to confirm; or Cancel to remain enrolled.

Proof of Completion

Proof of completion will be available on your “Training Summary” in My Human Resources after the next update. Certificates are no longer available in OWL.
