Who we are

The CGSA was created as a resource for graduate students in the department of chemistry. We are not an affiliate of SOGS/PSAC. Our goal is to create a formal body to act as a liaison between the chemistry graduate students and other Western organizations. We communicate important news to our members (the chemistry grad students!) given to us by these organizations. We also bring together the graduate chemistry student body by hosting departmental graduate events and activities. We aim to help graduate students with questions and concerns about the matriculation process.

What we do

The CGSA aims to do the following for its members, the graduate students of the Chemistry Department:

  • Be an advocate for the concerns and issues of our student colleagues
  • Provide each other with academic, social, and interface with supporting programs and services
  • Represent graduate student issues and concerns within the administration of the Chemistry Department as well as other university organizations

Events

The CGSA is proud to host several informal events throughout the year that facilitate meeting other graduate students in the department. We encourage those who are new to the department or would like to meet other graduate students within the department to participate; new faces are always welcome! In addition to meeting new people, you’re able to network and learn about different research areas in a casual setting. Who knows… this may even lead to your next collaboration or publication!
