Researcher works in TK Sham Lab

The Facilities at Western Chemistry house significant equipment and services that support the research activities of our faculty and students, as well as other users within the Faculty of Science and external clients.

The JB Stothers NMR facility houses four NMR spectrometers: a Bruker AV-III HD 400, a Bruker Neo 600 and a Varian Inova 600, which are utilized for liquids NMR spectroscopy, and the Varian Infinity Plus 400, which is dedicated for solid-state NMR spectroscopy.

The Western X-ray Diffraction Facility suite also has independent climate control and houses the Inel powder diffractometer and two single-crystal diffractometers (a Bruker Kappa Axis Apex2 and Nonius KappaCCD). In addition, a separate mechanical room minimizes ambient noise in the Facility.

The Western Mass Spectrometry Facility houses four mass spectrometers: a Micromass LCT- ESI, a Shimadzu GCMS-QP2010, a Bruker micrOTOF II and a Finnigan MAT 8400.

The Glassblowing Shop is housed in a suite specifically designed for scientific glass blowing and serves the entire Western Campus, including Engineering and Health Sciences.

In addition to these core services housed within chemistry, other centres on campus serve as hubs for additional specialized equipment for users throughout the Faculty of Science. These facilities include Surface Science Western, Western Nanofabrication Facility, The Biological Mass Spectrometry Lab, and the Centre for Advanced Materials and Biomaterials Research
