Biography
Alison Allan was appointed to a five-year term as Associate Vice-President (Research), effective October 1, 2024. She holds a PhD in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Guelph and is a professor in the Departments of Oncology and Anatomy & Cell Biology at Western. Alison is also a Distinguished Oncology Scientist within the Cancer Research Laboratories Program at the London Health Sciences Centre.
Alison has held several leadership roles at Western including Graduate Chair (2010-2016) and Chair (2017-2024) of Anatomy & Cell Biology as well as serving as Chair of the Basic Medical Sciences Group (2022-2024) within the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry. She currently serves on the Canadian Cancer Society’s National Advisory Council on Research, and previously served on Research Advisory Councils for Prostate Cancer Canada and the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.
Alison’s translational research program is dedicated to conducting research at the interface between the lab and the clinic, with a focus on the cellular and molecular mechanisms of cancer metastasis - the deadliest aspect of cancer. Throughout her career, Alison’s research program has been consistently by several external health funding agencies including CIHR, the US Department of Defense Breast Cancer Research Program, the Canadian Cancer Society, Breast Cancer Canada and others.
